Post by cajungator »

Please post your Petricola breeding tank setups pictures. Please also state your successful breeding conditions; ie. temp/ph/substrate/pots/water changes/lighting/conditioning/tank size/food/etc. any information would be very appreciated. :foggie:

I don't think many people have bred S. petricola - S. lucipinnis is bred relatively frequently, but the "true" S. petricola is not bred at all as often.

if you go to youtube, put in "petricola" can you can see some of their set ups. from what i can understand, i believe it replaces cichlid eggs with its own like the cuckoo birds. just briefly, they seem to use bowls w marbles and an inverted flower pot on top. more tha that i do not know :/

That would be that "Cuckoo spawns". I don't believe S. petricola or S. lucipinnis [which is far more common] are cuckoo spawners.

The "marbles" method is for egg-scatterers in that the eggs fall between the marbles and are "safe" from predators (including parents)

Well, obviously, if you knew, you wouldn't be asking questions if you knew! I'm just trying to help explain...

I would expect that they are S. lucipinnis, but I'll leave the final comment to Birger or Richard B.

Both videos look like S. lucipinnis. The "Egg Spray" video is definitely S. lucipinnis.

This looks correct to me....it is good to see the name and the differences being accepted more and more in the hobby.

All spawning vids of petricola on youtube are actually Lucipinnis.

There are some vids of petricola, but no spawning ones.

Petricola are spawned by NHA on a reasonable scale but most hobbyists who are breeding & advertising tank raised petricola actually have lucipinnis - there are a few exceptions but in the grand scheme of things, it is a few...
