Moved to "Wanted" section.

I'm not aware of anyone having bred Black Lancer in captivity anywhere in the world. They should be possible to get from someone that imports from SE Asia. I would have thought that it's possible to find a shop that carry (or can get) them somewhere in the greater Seattle area. They are far from common in this country, however. The four that I've bought from a shop 70 or so miles away (my wife gave away two of them when we split up, so I got another two).

it'd be awfully nice if you kept this community posted of your hunting efforts - many would thank you; neither have I seen them anywhere along the NE and eastern US or in on-line offers but I share in your desires

@MatsP: I have called a few places and visited 6 reputable Aquarium shops in my area, Everyone knows what they are but no one has had any for a few years. I know there is a big desire for them but I feel like there isn't a big supply.

@Viktor Jarikov: Yes I will definitely let this community know when and where I find them. From talking to my local shops I've found someone that imports straight from Asia. I've Emailed him today and I am just waiting for a reply.

I will update this thread if I find any available on lists, but I haven't seen them for a few years either. I personally have 3, and I know someone with 2 more, but none that anyone wants to sell. I would love to spawn them, but my existing fish are about 6".

Ahh you are lucky and so is your friend. I hope one day you do spawn them and get some more of them into the market!

I doubt it will be of any use to you, but we have a fully gorwn, probably female, black lancer in the LFS in south east england - no price on it as of yet though, if you were interested. Good luck with the breeding - it won't be easy but should make for a great project.

Nope, it's has been two years and I am still to see one offered for sale. I see its cousin, the Harlequin Lancer , offered sometimes, e.g. on Aquabid, but never Mr. Black.

Wetspot has Bagrichthys macracanthus on their stock list under "other cats". Anthony is great to deal with, just send him an email. The store is in Portland, Oregon.

I totally dropped the ball on this. I have 3 of them at the shop, if Anthony is out. Just let me know. I may be able to sex them. They've been coexisting in a 180 gallon tank for 3 or 4 months. I remembered I needed some, but not why. They are up in a holding tank in my rearing facility, not down on the main floor.

Steve, (the owner at the wet spot) actually owns the wholesale Cichlid Exchange, which supplies many of the freshwater fish for my shop. I get lost in tank watching when I go to visit, but no, alas, I do not work there.
