Larger pics in Cat-eLog?

Post by lfinley58 »

Hi,
When I tried to click to get a larger screen picture in the Cat-eLog (used two genera with a species in each) all I got was a clear grey area. I noted this yesterday and today. ??? Any suggestions or help? Thanks.

Hi Lee,

Here is a link to a page I know is working:

http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/im ... ge_id=8410

So, does clicking on the link above exhibit the same behaviour? Also, if I recall correctly, a previous issue with, I think your good self (might have also been Shane) to do with running MSIE in compatibility view. Can you confirm you are, or are not, using this. It should not be used with Planet (or any decent website for that matter)...

Cheers,

Jools

Hi Jools.

I followed the link that you provided and got the image info box and a lot of grey screen.

I will have to note that I do not know what MSIE is or where it might be found. But, I haven't changed anything (that I know of) and have not had any similar problems with any of the other websites that I regularly use. I will check with a friend regarding this the next time he stops by and see if he can figure it out.

Thanks for the follow up. Will let you know what happens.

Microsoft Internet Explorer. I recently shifted back to Chrome after an awful experience with MSIE 9.

Sergeant: Not stone, sir.

Hi again,

Thanks Shovelnose - and you again Jools.

I played a bit (I hate computer stuff...just want it to work) and now the function in question seems to work in both IE and Chrome. Hopefully other websites will not now be affected somehow or the other. I'll go bouncing around to check this out later in the afternoon. I'll have Mr. Frosty and Foamy ready just in case.

Thanks again.

Hi Lee,

Yes, sorry, MSIE = MicroSoft Internet Explorer. The "compatibility view" is a feature (in my opinion a rather ugly and poorly documented hack) that Microsoft gives us to allow older websites to work in their newer browsers. Again, my opinion, but for me it only helps with older sites who, years ago, made very MSIE specific design decisions and have not since re-designed. The proliferation of browsers these days means that most sites have got past the need to use it as any half decent website cannot afford to lean towards MS these days.

Hope that makes sense, can I assume the issue is resolved?

Cheers,

Jools

Hi Jools.

Thanks for the explanation. I am definitely in the Duh class with such things but I do try to learn a bit.

Re solving: The Compatibility View was the problem (I think). I found it clicked in the Positive position and for ha-ha's clicked it off. Afterwards all seemed ok. Will keep checking the Cat-eLog for various reasons and see if all holds...I guess it should.

Thanks again Shovelnose and Jools.

Hi Lee

No worries. I like to try and explain a bit as I think a bit of background sometimes helps.

Cheers
