Thanks for noticing and thanks again to jp11biod for the real world donation - much appreciated.

We prune user accounts with no posts, so this is more or less 10,000 users who have posted and of course many regulars who have posted many more times.

However, it's not a metric I really track. I tend to look more at overall unique visitors, where they come from and what they do. It's all very interesting!

Cheers,

Jools

Not to be a nudge, but since this is a UK based site, should we not be stating it has reached a kilometerstone? :d

And I will second, third and fourth what is said above. If you use this site regularly, if the information, advice and help you have gotten here have helped you, then donate. Every $, £ or EUR helps to insure this great resource will remain available for many years to come. Just think, if every one of those 10,000 members donated $1.00 a month (.63£ or .80EUR)), a measly $12/year (7.6£ or 9.62EUR), the site would have $120,000. If you cannot afford $1 a month, you probably should not be keeping fish anyway. :-p

With Christmas coming around the corner, consider adding PlanetCatfish to your Xmas gift list.

Actually, we do use miles rather than kilometres. We have a haphazard mix of metric and imperial measurement systems. Most people understand both systems.

Just wondering if there would be any support for a subscription based donation model. Something like $1 a month? I don't think it would give anything in particular except a warm fuzzy feeling. I would likely update the amount donated yearly or perhaps build something automatic to show it on the forum pages.

Good or bad idea?

This is such a good resource, I think you could pull that off but I would suggest a grace period where viewers can make several visits to learn all that is available to them. Or can you add a tool that would serve as a tour through the site?

Is Planet Catfish worth $12 a year to me? Hell, yeah!

I have now added subscription (i.e. $x a month) donations to the donor page.

If some of you would like to get the ball rolling (testing purposes ??!?! :-) ) that would be great.

Just to be clear, being a subscription based donor doesn't get you any different content, access or treatment. Just that you know you are helping towards keeping the site going.

Hello all,

If any of you would like to consider donating\via PayPal, it would be much appreciated! Even $1 a month adds up and help towards offseting our running costs of about $150 a month at present. Click on the subscribe or one-time donation buttons on this page.

Thank you again to all those who have donated in 2015 - you're all top catfish keepers! Have a great Christmas!

I'm more than happy to make a monthly donation, i have found all aspects of the site to be a great resource. It would be fitting though not sure what others may think, I'd go as far to say, that not only the costs of Internet hosting are covered, but contribution into a kitty towards those individuals running the site who are participating in research, and then presenting it to us members.
Thanks Teresa

Just a note to all to say Merry Christmas and to re-emphasise to anyone thinking about help out PlanetCatfish that regular donations really do help. While we get a lot of donations and support (especially from Amazonas Magazine and Swiss Tropicals), I must also mention the evergreen @twotankamin, but the site still costs me real cash each month to run and keep updated and secure.

There appears to be continued use for the site with new members, more content and a surprisinly upturn in forum traffic; so either one time or recurring, please do consider how you can help out.

I only donated money, most of which was the result of selling fish born in my tanks. I was able to get those spawns because of the excellent knowledge I gained from this site and its members. Moreover, I was able to sell some of those offspring because people found me on this site.

As far as I am concerned I have gotten the better end of things by a long shot.

Another donation in from @syorksaquarist, many thanks! It might not seem a lot. Not everyone has that kind of money available, so I would also like to mention the $1 or $2 per month regular donations (@kvnbyl for example!) all do help and if I could get a few more of them they would get ever closer to taking care of the monthly costs.

As 2019 draws to a close, I'd like to say a special thank you to all who supported us financially this year. Long time supporters @swisstropicals and @twotankamin continue to dig deep but also this year @Kostas, @TomSerious, Spencer Holst, @Aqua_Bankie, @Reindas and @pointpleco too have all provided donations - thank you all!

It's also really encouraging to have regular support and so I would also like to mention the various folks who put their hands in the pockets every month for a donation which helps offset the costs of the site month to month. Thank you @mexnotex, @KeXx, @MarcW, @jp11biod, Jerry Leong, @Jodilynn, @Iamfish, Vadims Krjuckovs, @xiaoshenxian92 and @kastokke. You are all most excellent!

Hope you all have a great Christmas, holiday and rest and relax and spend some time with family and fishes.

Cheers indeed,

To repeat what I said earlier in this thread. between what I donate to PC v.s. what I get in return, I am getting the better end of the deal.

Thanks to Jools, to all those who help keep the site working and especially to all those who offer their scientific expertise. You have made this site one of the most informative fish sites on the net.

And of course, Happy Holidays to all.
