Species only tank

Post by cdarminio »

Hi,

I'm converting my 60 gal tank (4' x 1' x 2') into a Loricariidae species tank. I will keep only ONE individual (not pairs, trios, etc), with maybe some tetras for dithers. My water is naturally soft (6.5-7). I will be keeping this tank dimly lit, and have a power head to mimic the flowing water of a river.

I have looked at L014, L190, L081 & L200. I can get all of these, so the question is which one is most suitable for my tank?
1. L190 and L014 can get to an impressive size, which is why I am considering them, but will my tank be too small?

2. I learned that only L014 is a carnivore, so the others will require driftwood. If I feed lots of vegetable matter, will I still need driftwood?

3. Will any of these eat smaller tank-mates (small tetras)?

Basically, I'm looking for a loricariidae that gets to decent size, has an attractive pattern, and is relatively easy to keep/has a history of doing well in aquariums.

If anyone has suggestions, I look forward to hearing them! Thanks
