Pleco - Dark with darker spots - fethered dorsal

Post by scooobe »

Hi,

1st time poster. Acquiring a second hand fish tank next week and this pleco comes with it....any ideas on the type? Has a feathered looking dorsal and long barbs. Looks about 5-6 inches long. Looks like it also has blue eyes which I didn't notice in person.

Cheers,

Thinking it might be a Featherfin Squeaker (Synodontis eupterus), thoughts?

Hi scooobe,

Welcome to PlanetCatfish! Yes I think you're correct on the ID. That's .

By the way, yes Synodontis are catfish, but they are not plecos. "Pleco" is a nickname given to some species of the family Loricariidae. You are now squarely on the path to becoming expert catfish nerd! :)) (just kidding)

Cheers, Eric

Thanks mate!

On a side note, I’m trying to combine two tanks, but have 4 Julli corys in there, and a couple of oto’s, will they be in danger with the featherfin? Tank is 200l (55 gal)

Cheers

I'm not sure, but feather fins can be jerks. I'd worry most about the otos.
