Synodontis ID

Post by Rawdirt »

Hey everyone! I was sold this as a longriostrus as a baby but it doesn’t seem to add up. Unique tiny dot head to large dot body like a helmet. Isn’t too skittish and it’s around 8” after 2 years. I will take clearer photos soon.
I’m converting my 210 to community tank and I’m trying to get a proper ID to possible sell.

The dunt in the head and the curved dorsal make it look very much like a mass produced fish. I've not seen something quite like this one before - could be a second gen hybrid. Would be a good one to add to the site if possible?

Beyond that Synodontis sp. hybrid would be as good as I could suggest and interested in what others think.

I will take better photos with lighting and out of the tank. I’m hesitant to get rid of it for sheer uniqueness, hybrid or otherwise.

I agree it's a good looking fish. It could well be an adult of the sp(5) as Viktor points out. So, would be good to get a picture or two for the site just to record what an adult looks like. I appreciate you taking the time to do that,

Cheers,

Cool pics. Thanks. If I didn't know it was a hybrid, I'd say that is a sharp looking fish for sure. I mean it is a cool looking fish but its origin takes out a lot for me.
