galaxy pleco with yellow spots or something different?

Post by Chuunofish »

Hi I purchased a beautiful pleco and was told it was a galaxy pleco with unusual markings, I have not been able to find any pics of a galaxy with yellow spots so am wondering if the LFS incorrectly ID'd him any help with an ID would be greatly appreciated

Hi Chuunofish, I'm not sure the white vs. yellow is such a critical feature.

Are you certain it's Leporacanthicus? Maybe it's just the camera angle, but the body looks a little short and chunky to me for that geneus. Can you get a few closer photos to be able to confirm? Maybe a photo of the teeth?

Thanks, Eric

It is an odd angle, but the oral disc is extended and I would say with certainty it's a , likely .

Thanks for the info, he is very timid so tends to hide when you get too close to the tank so may take a while for better pics.

If he is L240, not sure what to do as LFS said it was close to fully grown at circa 15cm, according to excellent info here he will grown to 24cm, not sure my 350ltr tank will be big enough with all the other stock in the tank
