Maybe too young to ID?
Hi All,
I found this affixed to surface of slate rock shelf in a tank housing male , a group of small (questionably poecilus) and a few of the Indonesian . Maybe it's a cory egg (most likely fish to spawn in this tank), but the flat edge on one side doesn't look right to me, and I see no embryo in the egg. It's about 1.5-1.75mm diameter. Could it be a Microglanis egg? That would be terrific, but I think very unlikely. Could it be an egg case deposited by leeches which came in mixed with live blackworms? IDK what a leech's egg case looks like. If not any of those, I have no clue what it is.
Cheers, Eric

Re: Maybe too young to ID?
Great news update - Today I reexamined the object under the dissecting microscope (without dissecting it, of course). I saw a heartbeat, and I saw the interior contents jump inside. SOMETHING is going to hatch.
My best guess is it's a cory egg, but really the embryo inside does not look like a typical cory embryo. Also, if you notice it AFTER it jumps, you'll see what looks like areas of dark pigmentation. That seems way too dark for a cory embryo. I'm hoping and praying for a baby or .
Stay tuned for the drama!
Cheers, Eric

Re: Maybe too young to ID?
Mystery solved. I believe it's a cory fry. After the egg hatched, I moved all the corys out of the tank. Why? (1) so future cory fry aren't eaten by the bumblebees, and (2) if I find more eggs in this tank, they'll have to be bumblebee eggs.
