A smudgespot cory fry!

Post by Proteus »

I got the shock when I went to the holding tank that held my 11 smudge spot cories that was left after keeping them in a 82 degree temperature for few months (flooding in basement and combined the tanks) There was a FRY in the tank. Well past that stage but just by jove I am just thrilled! Have no idea how old it is as this group is so skittish and goes crazy when i am approaching the tank to drop in food. To be fair they have been placed out of the traffic in the basement so I dont hang out to stress them out even further.

😁

I have always found similis as cute as can be. I had a group of wild caughts years ago in a species tank. I would see eggs on the glass now and then but they always vanished fast. I never got any fry. I have a feeling they like to eat their own eggs. If so, it is super you managed to get any fry.

Yep there is total of 5 or 6 fry they are really skittish so orginally thought there was only one fry. They were hiding very well in the tiny clump of moss i put in there when i first moved them in there. They were the only fish species in the 20g tank. As i was moving groups around playing music chairs.

So I added a honeycomb type of cave for the fellas. They love it. There is total of 11 adults but you wouldnt know it in there and at least 5 or 6 fry.

At first i thought only one fry. Now at least 5-6 i am not tearing apart the tank just yet. I think they like it there as they are less stressed out. Or thats just me assuming they are little bit more chill there.

I think you are correct as they were the only species in there. Prior to it was quarantine tank for plants I got in. No other fish has been in there.
