how many years do Panda corys spawn?

Post by nuimom »

Hi, just wondering how many years corys are able to successfully spawn. My Pandas have been at it nonstop for almost 3 years now, one poor tired female and three males, now her two male fry have joined in :O I am trying to get her some gal pals. It is hard to sex them when they get any, since they are so tiny. Also is it a temp. or ph thing that determines the sex ratio ? Thanks Laura

Hello nuimom,

I've read some corys live for over 25 years, if kept well. I imagine they stop spawning before then, but I don't know when. I've got some 5 year old corys which spawn regularly, I I imagine they still have years to go.

Cheers, Eric

Thanks for the reply.........since there are so many different sizes and water requirement, I am sure some live longer and spawn longer as well :) I have just one poor Panda female and 5 males and wonder if she is depleted of eggs from non-stop spawning for the last 4 years, or just tired. I have started adding some flourish, but ph seems OK as well...........she seems fine and spawning dance is still happening, just no egg laying? Also, not sure how old she is, got her at adult size with two of the males, and another later and he was much smaller. My fish shop only had what I got at the time :) The other males are her fry, now joining in on the fun.
