Peckoltia or not?

Post by Mcasella »

Recently picked up this big girl (she is almost 6 inches in length including her caudal, which is not a full measure of just body length lol), she is roughly 3 years old and currently hiding very well so I have yet to get a better shot of her (dorsal up, etc).
Her spots stay mostly uniform without the typical peckoltia size change as it gets closer to the dorsal. The slate is about two inches wide in the picture with a yellow toned led light over the tank she is in. Just trying to figure out what exactly she is so I can attempt to locate her a male to spawn.
Sorry about the poor quality pictures, she didn't stay there long and I wasn't trying to stress her further on her first night with me. I have looked through to catalogue but have yet to see one that closely resembles her (most are stated at a much lesser average adult size) for features. Apologies for the dirty outside glass, I generally don't clean the sides just the front/interior.

It's quite light in colour, but I'd say ? - perhaps more likely given P. brevis isn't from an area collected very often if at all.

That looks like her stress coloration, and is the correct adult six (6" max). Just looks like they might not be easy of a find as P. brevis.

I'm told that at least some pleco experts consider L205 to be brevis, but still would be from a different location.

I went with brevis as an ID because the head spots don't extend back far on the body. But as Jools noted, the fish is faded, so maybe more spots will become visible later.
