Update on Small Farlowella ID

Post by MissNoodle »

The last really tiny baby has grown up more, is reaching maturity now that he is growing little bristles on his rostrum. First confirmed male, pretty exciting since my others are female haha...

There was some uncertainty over his species because of the belly schute pattern being toggling between 3 complete rows or incomplete, but now he's larger, the schutes are much clearer now.

And a photo on the side, 4 rows of side schutes

The belly pattern rules out mariaelenae.

Would you agree, male Platorynchus?
If so, then I've got one of each :D my female is fairly mature and has been gravid, so would be fantastic if I've got a pair.

The ID is probably good, these things aren't easy to ID 100%. Well done - it's a good looking individual.

Thank you! That's one of the fun things with these guys is telling them apart. Seems Platorynchus is one of the most frequently seen at my stores here. All labeled as vittata though obviously. And vittata is most common but ive seen quite a few Platorynchus being sold, and 2 I've got now then are also Platorynchus. So having a pair is great
