Orinocodoras eigenmanni?

Post by fishguy1978 »

I scored these from my LFS. They were mixed in with striped raphaels. They are pretty skinny so I will need to fatten them up before they join my raphaels.

The Megalodoras is mottled while the O. eigenmanni is striped. The 2 fish I obtained are striped with no mottling.

Moved the O. eigenmanni into the 120g now that they have healthy looking bellies. One dove into a bamboo cave with one of the striped Raphaels so we will see how communal they are.

The patient is out of surgery and in recovery. Seems to have worn of the clove oil. Swimming normally. I removed the entire skin sack so there is now a round patch of missing skin. I will dose paraguard for the next week and see what happens.

Yes, they are. I was amazed when my spotted raph survived getting skinned.

Amazing success (so far) on the surgery. In the future, if you're ever short of clove oil, you can buy at local drug stores like Walgreens, etc., (and even most grocery stores and department stores with baby sections) the 20% benzocaine used for teething pain. A few drops (how many drops has to be determined by trial and error - I found 3-4 drops per 100 ml was pretty safe) in water then immerse the fish; it's safe for sedating fish, then transfer to clean water for recovery.

I wouldn't say it's better than the clove oil, but last summer I couldn't find clove oil in local stores so I resorted to the benzocaine.

Good luck with the recovery! :-)

Thanks. I was surprised that GNC carried the clove oil but I will keep the benzocaine in mind.
