Fungal treatment

Post by fishguy1978 »

I have a Hoplosternum littorale that I began treating for white fuzz fungus 10APR22. Rescued from an overstocked tank. I have used meth blue at full strength dose and as a dip. I have used Seachem paraguard(5 day course), polyguard and kanaplex and Fritz Maracyn Oxy (Two 5 day courses). Current course of treatment is 3Tbsp of kosher salt in 10g and daily doses of paraguard.
I have not reduced recommended dose quantity with any of these. I think the meds have held the fungus at bay but I don't see any marked improvement. Fungus is on both sides of head at the gill plates. I have continued lite feeding. Water changes are made at the end of a medication course. 10g tank is emptied and cleaned and refilled with fresh water. Air driven sponge filter with moderate flow. Water temp ~82F.

All the stuff you tried is what I would have tried. The only other thing to do which has been recommended to me is to lift the fish out of water and apply the methylene blue with a Q-tip directly to the wound.

Good luck,
Eric

Following bekateen's recommendation that I try dabbing meth blue directly on the fungus so for now I have a blue pom pom cat.

I think I am finally seeing some improvement. I have been dabbing meth blue directly onto the fuzz. I think it's getting smaller.

Not sure what to do with this guy. Moved him from the 10g to the 220g since it is constantly water changing hoping the larger tank will help.

Well, the fungus came back with a vengeance. I was able to source some Fritz maracyn and maracyn 2. I did the 5 day course of maracyn and then started the M2. Unfortunately, it was not enough. The fuzz had started to spread to the edges of the scales along the body.
