Meza-Vargas, V., Calegari, B.B., Lujan, N.K., Ballen, G.A., Oyakawa, O.T., Sousa, L.M., Rapp Py-Daniel, L., and R.E. Reis. (2022). A new species of Chaetostoma (Siluriformes: Loricariidae) expands the distribution of rubbernose plecos eastward into the lower Amazon basin of Brazil. ABSTRACT
A new species of the rubbernose pleco genus Chaetostoma is described from the Maicuru and Seiko Rivers, a northern tributary of the lower Amazon River and a tributary of the lower Xingu River, respectively, both in Pará State, Brazil. The new species is diagnosed from all congeners, except members of the species group, by having an enlarged second unbranched anal-fin ray with posterior paired dermal flaps. Additionally, the new species is distinguished from its only other currently recognized congeners from rivers draining the Guiana Shield (C. jegui and C. vasquezi) by having a smaller opercle and a supraoccipital excrescence undeveloped, comprising a simple skin area present in juveniles and absent in adults. A revised multi-locus phylogeny for the species of Chaetostoma is presented, and the Chaetostoma anale species group is discussed and rearranged.

Having now read the article and looking at our database, I wonder if some other L- and LDA-numbers might also be worth examining for assignment to :
  • from the Rio Jauari/Jauaru
  • from the Rio Curua
  • from the Rio Paru
    • These were all first presented (along with L413 & L416) in this article, split into two PDFs:
    • Today I noticed also that the locations of L412 and L414 had been incorrectly mapped in the past (creating the impression that they were not from within the potential range of C. orientale), with the Jauari assigned as a tributary to the Negro and the Curua confused with the Curua along the Iriri; I've now fixed these locations using latitude/longitude data presented in the original DATZ article.
  • from the Rio Amapari
    • Unfortunately, I do not have any sources for the article publishing that LDA number, nor do we have a photo of the fish to see whether it resembles C. orientale.

I've only got up to LDA087 in photos - they were thereafter published in Aqualog News up to LDA103. Hard to find unless someone out there already has them. Last time I asked, the photographer, @Erwin, unfortunately, didn't allow us to use his pictures to freely show these ones which are obscure and so are effectively DRMed out of use / sight.

Erwin runs the Welt Der Fische website and keeps new taxa up to date, so he is at least aware of the publication (http://wp.worldfish.de/newest-taxa) but I don't know if he's compared it with LDA091.

Might be worth someone asking again nicely.....
