Panda Corydoras Breeding Age?

Post by Cory4life »

Hello everyone i am new here to the Forum, I have a group of 12 Panda Corydoras and was wondering at what age do they typically begin to Breed? I purchased them online 10 months ago and they were really small, I would say they were no more than 6 months when i got them? Probably 4-5 months old? Anyway, if that is the case they would be about 14 months old right now, They are a LOT bigger now than when i got them and they are a Picture of Health!

They are probably breeding age by now. I've had Corydoras venezuelanus hatch from eggs and spawn 30 days later.

Good luck!

So far i have not seen any Spawning activity from this Group of Pandas? I am fairly confident i have 2 or 3 Females, I have them as Healthy as they can get. It seems odd that i have not seen any activity? This is why i asked the Typical breeding age of Panda’s? I have spawned and raised several batches of Aeneus, Paleautus, Adolfoi, and Similis over the years But i have never known their ages?

According to the BLOGs here ( https://www.planetcatfish.com/common/my ... ies_id=267), there are two reports that the fish were 2 years old, but there's also reports at 1 year old and 3 months old.

Cheers, Eric

Finally! I am seeing the very first signs of spawning as i type this, I left a dim blue Moonlight on last night when i went to bed, and at 2am this morning they are Spawning. Like i said this Group is over a year old, They are between 1 and 1.5 years, I would say they are 14-15 Months old. I wish i knew for absolute sure, but i don’t? I bought the entire Group from an online seller the end of last April, They were REALLY small when i got them, and all 12 of them were the exact same size, going by the size of other Corydoras that i have Spawned & raised over the years i would say this Group of Panda’s were well under 6 months of Age when i got them, probably 3-4 months Old

From what i have observed with this Group of Panda’s, I would say you can expect to see Spawning activity when they are just over a Year old, about 14-15 Months. Of course that is if they are Healthy, and getting everything they need

Congratulations! Glad they started breeding for you.

The age at first spawn can vary quite a bit from cory species to species, but in my experience with the species I've spawned, they are typically ready to spawn at less than a year old (for babies hatched in my own tanks and raised to adulthood). When obtained from other sources, I don't know how old they are and I can only estimate. I think the switch from one home to another delays spawning because of course it is a stressor.

Cheers, Eric
