L124 spawn

Post by stuby »

I picked up some F1 L124's from Eric Bodrock back in May 2019. 5 days ago, I found a male with eggs. I removed the eggs to hatch.... I found an egg outside his cave so thought it best to pull them. Hope you enjoy.

Take care,
Chuck

Thank you. They are not full grow yet.... at a guess I would say 7" TL female and 8" TL male. My guess is there was ~45/50 eggs laid, and I got ~35 wigglers. I did have some fungus and the male ate/injured some before I found them.

Thought I would update with some pictures. Day 11 (5 days after they hatched) and they are starting to get some color. Picture of the one I think is the mother too. Hope you enjoy and if you want me to keep updating, please let me know.

Will do.

Day 13... A few pictures I took today. Let them loose in the tank. Egg sack is almost gone and it's a fry only tank...... tankmates are all ~1 month old or less so no worries.... tankmates are L180, L211, and L345..... plus, snails and cherry shrimp for the cleanup crew.

Take care,
Chuck

You've just reminded me the fry are pretty unicoloured at first, which is odd for such a pretty fish. They look healthy mind you - great work!

Thanks Jools!

I agree, very odd. I can't think of any other pleco that is like this..... any other pleco that I have bred have at least some spotting/strips when they start getting color.

They are all doing well and seem to be eating good. Still look drab...but I am sure they will start coloring up in a couple weeks. Some pictures I took of them and some tankmates.

Love when they start looking like the adults. They look better every time I look at them.

Took some more pictures today.... L124 and L345. Both around 1" (2.5cm).

Thanks Eric,

They started hatching today..... tells me they were in the cave a couple days before I seen them. May have to let dad try next round and see how he does. Separated the wigglers just so they aren't all in one jar.

Congrats! What was the average hatch rate and mortality rate? Looks like a lot of fry, good luck with them!

Thank you both.

I didn't count but I would guess at ~35 or so didn't make it. There are well over 100 fry by my guess that made it so far.

Just an update on the L124 fry...... Just starting to see some marking and they are growing well. I feed them BBS every few days and they love it. I also feed a lot of vegie and algae pellets (plus others) and leave the lights on for at least 12 hours a day just trying to grow algae. Hope you enjoy.

Fry are doing well. They are around 1.5" (3.8cm) SL in 2 1/2 months. My pair decided to spawn again..... I pulled them after I seen a couple eggs got kicked but I think the male was just taking care of the bad eggs..... I also had a batch of L181 eggs get kicked so I took the opportunity to show what the eggs look like next to each other. Hope you enjoy... and if anyone is looking for some L124's let me know!

Take care,
