Good one, torbanite, maybe
Panaque:
I have been absent for a while due to a string of job interviews that required my full attention (as a result of which I will be moving to Cornwall this summer!).
Congrats and welcome back
List is updated.

OK... lets see if
this one survives a bit longer than my last couple of efforts.
Previously Listed Catfish

I think so.....
Did a musical search and came up with the Grateful Dead 72 (live) record, which includes "Sugar Magnolias", so that's not correct.
Also the Stones have a record called "Flowers", all members are by now 72 years old (average) but aren't dead. Incorrect as well.
However, I'll make a guess based on the last one:
aka Stone cat.
Another clue might help

I'm afraid it is not
. Wrong family, wrong continent, wrong everything.
I don't think you need another clue.
Sugar Magnolia is definitely the wrong track.

iv) On Monday (6th), the folks where I live were on holiday. They had some sweeping to do.

Based on the (missed that one) track China Cat Sunflower, which should be interpreted as Sun Cat (without flowers)

Now you are definitely on the right track. (& a very fine track it is too)
Also somewhat closer geographically, but still not the correct fish.

Oh...... I would have sworn that was it
But indeed, it didn't match clue 4:
iv) On Monday (6th), the folks where I live were on holiday. They had some sweeping to do.
Which is not easy; I googled for holidays containing fireworks (hence the sweeping), but all Asian New Years/Tets that I found have already taken place (end of Jan/beginning of Feb)....
And what happened to clue 3?

If I numbered
all the clues it would be too easy..
The (statutory) holiday in question is Qing Ming Jie. "Tomb sweeping day".
vi) My genus suggests moderation but my species the exact opposite - prodigal, a libertine, debauched even.

I even tried some special bits, yangtze, upper, lower this and that, no luck.
edit:
?

When I change my way of thinking so far, your answers are very plausible

Well, they fit and we'd never know

Silurus fits the calm demeanor and moderate/or bit and I could make up a meaning for asotus because I couldn't find one.
If you use the second one Silurus and ment(or) works pretty nice too.

You got it ! Well done!
Common name "Chinese catfish" => ("China Cat Sunflower" - "Sunflower" = "China Cat")
vi) My genus suggests moderation but my species the exact opposite - prodigal, a libertine, debauched even.
Silurus is a PC moderator.. => performs "moderation"
asotus means prodigal, libertine etc. ("debauchee" according to my dead tree dictionary).
(I'm guessing the fish spawns easily and/or scatters its eggs far and wide).
If you google
Latin:asotus it returns a bunch of online definitions for it.
whew!

Hmm. Nobody went to Sunday school or maybe everyone was in church. Thought I blew it on the last clue.
c)Medium to big family, small genus and at least four other cats share my last name, they represent something too. Must be a sign of something.

The synonym
A. magdalenae could possibly be seen as Easter-ish.. but it is a looong time since I went to Sunday School

Trachelyopterus insignis
Flag Woodcat
Right on the nose!
The fish has
Flag Woodcat and
insignis for representing, sign of something, standing for something etc.
I wasn't there

but I hear Mary Magdalene wiped Jesus's face on the way to be crucified. magdalenae is a synonym twice and Magdalena is in Distribution.
All yours!

No. I'm afraid not.
This is now a reverse riddle.. I'm going to spend the rest of the evening wondering what logic led you to that particular fish..'cos it's not immediately obvious (to me)
ii) South America is the correct continent though.

I wish I getting more creative but this guy goes by the common name Coal Catfish. I was pretty sure you wouldn't make it
that easy.
