Yes, I think you're right. Had to look it up (craggy) and it seems more appropriate than the "common" thing.

You have the right family, but the wrong fishes.
iii) A long (& I mean
long) road bridge, completed in 1962 (No, not the Forth Road Bridge

)can be found near where I'm at.
iv) Part of the bridge collapsed in 1964 after an unfortunate accident.

oo, both venezuela, but mine was caught at the bridge.
Unless of course, I've got the wrong bridge...

edit: aw, phooey, it is the wrong bridge, should have been Maracaibo.

Apparently both species occur in Lake Maracaibo, Venezuela.....
Let's have it: is it the one named after a person or the one that resembles a piece of wood?

Nope & Nope.
v) Clue i) will give you my species name, but requires a wee bit of lateral thinking.
vi) Half of my Genus is shared with a Genus from one of the larger catfish families.

You probably will.. unless he goes the long way round. The shop wouldn't be in Cupar would it? I've been there a few times & they sometimes have some very nice catfish.

New Fish:
a) My family is common but I'm not commonly in fish stores.
b) I'd like the leftovers on the workshop floor.

a: Loricariid, but an uncommon one (wich kinda narrows it down to 600 species or so)
b: eats wood. some sort of Panaque, or a closely related fish; but for example Sturisoma spp eats wood as well, so does the Gold Nugget Baryancistrus and the Peckoltia's.....
there must be a zillion of these wich aren't common imports....I can think of a whole list of Panaque's for example
we need another hint!

b)
I'm like the leftovers on the workshop floor.
a) correct
panaque - not correct because of my spelling error!
New clues:
c) I show a distinct somewhat uncommon colour when young.
d) I have a common name that goes with bears.

Not a panaque though.
"I'm like the leftovers on a workshop floor" - latin name reference. Sidguppy was going in the right direction but not such big pieces...
