That wouldn't work because U in the cipher text would have to map to both M and L in the plain text.
Similarly E in the plain text would need to represent both R and F in the cipher text.

There are various schemes whereby that could result, but not with this one.

Thou doth give waaay too much credit!

All I was thinking was anagram+ some +/- formula and taking a guess at the first double nine-letter fish I could think of.
I just read about the enigma machine in wiki and I don't have a clue what I just read....

You definitely won't need an Enigma machine to decode this one!

The cipher is a very old one.
In fact, one eminent Roman would recognise it instantly.

Good one but I'm running out the door to work - just for a laugh, my first set came out as a new species Eoxyedora exyptieus.... Need an alphabetical slide rule to make it faster.

Aka Ceasar cipher. And a good choice, given the name!

ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ
XYZABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVW

FRUBGRUDV FUBSWLFXV

I'm off to bed, so I will give a clue tomorrow.

Spot on!

According its entry, this fish is cryptic because it mimics another species.
I can see how it might profit Otocinclus to mimic Corydoras, but Corydoras mimicking other Corydoras ?
:screwy:

Next!

Right, so I have to come up with a question ...

I'm named after a male person, but if it was a feamle, one might think I was named after a Israeli prime minister.

I have a few more clues lined up, if that's not enough to crack it quickly.

Nope, another good guess, but it is wrong PM this one too, somewhere between Meir and Netanyahu in time.

May I defer? (pass the buck :D)

Does someone have one ready?

Not "ready", but here goes:
I'm NOT from South America.
I eat algae amongst other things.
A clothes company making quite rude (not meaning healthy!) T-shirts is also a connection to this fish.

Edit: Don't expect any comments to any guesses until tomorrow morning (in about 8-9 hours or so).
