Marc is on the right track, although not the right fish

another hint:
Fear me!

yeah, I did it a bit better

the other text wasn't as accurate as this one.

nah, no continental hints yet, you peeps drop things on this topic that are like Greek to me with hints and clues I'd never figured out, even if I was unemployed for a year and bored to death

indulge me :beardy:
think about what greenpeace doesn't like and remember Han Solo. can't get any easier than that

There is a posting on the forum that links nuclear (waste) to (again) Noturus. Therefore I'd guess , in which the gladiator part may refer to Han Solo (warrior). To make it even more far fetched, Madtom can become Atom (atomic waste). How's that?

This one should actually be for Jools or another Star Wars fan. Not my cup of tea really (which shows; see above  )

nah, now you're going boldly where you shouldn't go: straight in the wrong direction!

It's still TAXONOMICALLY a Han Solo trip

so your first guess was a good one, it just wasn't the right fish

there aren't many Han Solo catfishes in the catelog ....

all by themselves.....

wich would if they were waste toxic enough for Greenpeace to object

hint hint

erm you people have synonymized his family with another one! :(

He used to be ALL BY HIMSELF.......he still is in his CotM article.......

but not in the Catelog

wich screwes up beyond any repair this whole riddle.....DAMN!

damn!

This thread has been very useful for finding updates/bugs for the site - once this is guessed, can someone post in the bugs forum for me to update to CotM?

Cheers,

Jools

not the right fish, but yes, now that we're talking about fish that once had their own family (like the Olyridae once was) this is definitely thinking in the right direction

Like Olyra longicaudata my fish is the sole species in his genus and until like 10 minutes ago I strongly believed he had a family all by it's own, a facvt I've known for over 30 years as he's in my oldest catfish book.....

he shares overall looks with the fishes he's now lumped in with but I'm still convinced this is more convergent evolution than related issues as his innards and some external marks are unique.

another hint:
I share a thing or two with scuba divers!

can de resume:
1: Han Solo in the taxonomical way (at least at genus level, but IMNSHO still all the way)
2: no friends of those who don't like toxic stuff; I'm baaaaad
3: friendly & social to speciesmembers
4: scuba divers and me, we share certain peculiarities

your turn!

Jools, check the Catfish of the month:
http://www.planetcatfish.com/cotm/cotm. ... cle_id=108
Thus, the single species of Heteropneustes is the sole representative of both that genus and the entire family, thus making it the smallest of all catfish families. Although scientists see strong bone related reasons for including these species in the family Clariidae, other anatomical features of these remarkable fish keep it, presently, separate.

New riddle:

1) I have something to do with a painter
2) Clue 1 is connected to someone whose name resembles something having to do with teeth a lot

Nope.
3) The first name of the person sought in clue 2 is something that can be put before corleone

teeth a lot.. Don Corleone..
?

Let me rephrase: the name has a lot to do with teeth; not a lot of teeth.

The Don part is okay, which indicates you've found the first name of the person you're looking for (clue 2).

- painter= decorator=decora, odont=teeth=don?

Re: what am I?

Nope.
Good effort, yet you'll have to find the 2 persons (clue 1 and clues 2/3) first before you can find the fish.

4) painter as in artist, not as in decorator

Renaissance painter- Lazzaro Bastiani ?

Nope, no Syno at all.

The person you're looking for in clues 2 & 3 is an artist as well (but not a painting artist) of which the first name is known. Find his last name (having to do with teeth), then find the painter. These two names will certainly guide you to the fish I have in mind.

5) These clues will lead you to the common name of the fish

Fishy clue as well?

6) I have more keepers than images, yet of of the keepers is "cheating".

argh
you made a mess of it, Marc!

I think we were all looking for something artisty in the long row of latin names in the catelog.......
and I was sure it was 1 person, not 2....

so we have to find someone who's called "Don whatchamacallit" then translate his last name into something toothy wich isn't something toothy, but another person's name and that other person's name is a part of the common name of the fish?? and none of those persons turns out to be an artist?

bloody hell.

wow

bloody common names again. tough.

No, that wouldn't make sense. That's even too difficult for me

In other words:
1) Find the artist (it is one) whose first name is Don and last name has something to do with teeth
2) Find the painter (rather famous artist; lived nearby  )
3) Combining these 2 names will (hopefully) trigger you to remember a song and that will lead you to the fish.

still think it's very difficult

I've scrounged the net for Don's, and 'Don' turns out to be a honorific in Spanish, so a couple of billion Dons came up

so far among the more well-known Don's I found include
Don Corleone,
Don Vito and Don Michael and Don Vincent (all Corleone Don's),
Don Cossak Choir,
Don Benito,
Don Bosco,
Don Camilo,
Don Quixote aka Don Quijote de la Mancha (the crazy knight who chases windmills),
Don Juan Carlos (King of Spain),
Don Juan (the famous womanizer),
Don Lawrence (a famous comic drawing artist!, but no teeth involvements),
Don Salvador,
Don Francisco,
Don Giovanni,
Don Pedro,
Don Joseph Nasi (a Jew!),
Don Pasquale and of course
Don Diego de la Vega better known as Zorro.

so far no Don's with things to do with teeth. number of hits at google with 'Don'; about 1.6 million.....

the one I know that DOES have something to do with teeth is the orthodontist, but I don't think that's a specific person and I also suspect that in English they probably have a different word (it's the Dutch word for someone who tortures your mouth)

Don't forget
Don Johnson (Miani Vice)
Don King (boxing promoter & hairstylist's nemesis)
Don (ald) Duck - avian pal of Mickey Mouse

yeah, I saw Don King popping up on google as well and I forgot about Don Johnson, cause that is something out of the eighties....

unfortunately no amount of alcohol enables me to forget bad music, bad fashion, bad movies and bad TV shows from the eighties.

I keep trying! but alas.

that decade was the Scourge, the Atonement Time and Hell on Earth for me when it came to music, fashion, movies or TV shows

my god.

there's about 2 things from back then: the A team (as long as you don't look at the women's hairdo's) and The Waterboys

yeah, man, the Ninja Turtles.
crazy shit

I've seen many Dons pass by, yet you should be looking for Don the artist......

Alright, give away:

7) Lately I've enjoyed many american pizzas and steak & kidney pie
