Been hearing a lot about them recently.. seem like interesting fish, but I've never seen them round here & I'm not sure how they'd do in our soft water...

Your turn,

OK, I'm like a very common catfish, but nearly named for a French bakery.

too bad it's not a characin

Boulengerella would have been a neat match for boulangerie (a French bakery)

apart from that I just checked all the genera, and there's no Boulanger/Boulenger somethingy in the catelog.
another hint?

@marc; I would never ever have found Oxydoras.....I was looking at Stones songs that resembled latin fish names and I didn't connect that there should be a translation as well.
told you I suck at this. only when it's obvious or not too cryptic I can find it.

hehe

I did look for Booulenger but only in genera, not species;
L Banana lobbed it to me, all I had to do was use my forehead and pass the goalie

OK first hint:
I'm common as dirt, wich is a bloody shame

Corydoras aeneus IS highly underrated, and fiths the description

Ancistrus cf cirrhosus does as well, but I don't see you putting in Loricariae Sid.

no, I meant common in the hobby, sold anywhere, and that IS a bloody shame................ :(

me being for sale everywhere is the cause of much sadness in our hobby

hint #2: I should be very dangerous, but actually I'm quite useful, it's all a matter of taste

Smack on the money!

in Dutch these poor fish are called "blue Shark", in other languages almost always "shark' is in there.

bad taste for a pet, good taste on a plate ;)

Thanko mucho!

And now for something a bit harder:

1) My genus name is not explained in the Clog. However, the first part could refer to a wooden castle or tower in Teuton
2) My common name - again, not in the Clog - refers to the thing you can store a record in (amongst others)
3) Another musical clue: clap your hands and stamp your feet
4) One of my pictures in the Clog isn't working (kind of painted black )
5) On another of these pictures I look like an Arapaima - well, sort of
6) I'm not from there, however
