Are those 'galeatus' the ones you got from Ruinemans that came from Paraguay?

I'm very sorry to hear this. It seems as if there are a lot of ups and downs with auchenipterid species. Two steps forward and one step backwards.

Two weeks ago, I started on page 1 of this thread and read straight through to about page 40 and then took a break. When I started back up, I began on the last page - at the time, page 78 - and went backwards for a few pages to get the gist of where you all were currently.

I'm trying to get a real feel for what it's like to own auchenipterids. I've never been able to have any, myself, despite a few false leads over the last five years or so.

But now, I believe I have a contact who might be able to help me. I've asked him to keep an eye out for the very smallest species. Here was the list I gave him:
Tatia brunnea
Centromochlus romani
Centromochlus perugiae

As you see, I prefer smaller fish.

Can you suggest any others?
Are any of the species listed particularly tricky?

[Btw, if this should not be posted on this thread, feel free to move to correct forum area. ]

I have kept C. romani (and bred) and C. perugiae (not bred). They are both nice fish, and the typical "woodcat bipolar: manic at night, invisible hiding during daytime, unless MAYBE if you put food in the tank!".

I'm guessing you'll struggle finding , but should be able to easily lay your hands on . may be available - I've only seen these for sale once, and did keep some for a while, but to be honest, have never seen them for sale since. Like C.perugiae, these are extremely active at feeding time, and it's amazing how the tank can come to life with a group of these when bloodworm is introduced.
A very active auchenipterid, and again, may be available from time to time, is . Another small(ish) species is . I've never seen these for sdale, but know people who have kept them, so again, may be available if you keep trying.

have showed up on some lists. They look a nice little cat. are a lovely little cat too, as Martin says. They are VERY greedy!

First off, this is indeed a good place for your questions/remarks.

As you have already "struggled" through this long thread, I don't need to explain why I'm downsizing.
I would, however, like to state that only the past year has been bad for both the auchenipterids and myself.
In the other 19 years of those 2 decades I have hardly ever had the feeling that keeping driftwoods is 2 steps forward, 1 step back.
Imo these are very rewarding fishes, as long as you're willing to provide a proper aquascape and accept that they are less visible than other (cat-)fishes.

Wrt choices: there are many to choose from, yet they must be available. I therefore hope that you'll succeed in obtaining some species.
I recall that you once talked about A. coracoideus; if these become available I wouldn't hesitate, despite the fact they grow somewhat bigger than C. perugiae for instance.

And of course, if any questions pop up, feel free to ask. Atm there are several people who know a lot about woodcats, so I'm sure your Q's will be answered.

A "false lead." I don't remember the exact species, but I do recall sending you a photo to ID for my friend who had the fish. I had the room back then and would have been delighted to get the two she offered me. There were two such offers, from the same source, but no fish ever arrived!

@ Marc, when I thought you were leaving the auchenipterid hobby I got very discouraged, but I bounced back and posted here. So, despite everything, my intent is to obtain a few members of one species and go from there!

I am - or rather: we are - looking forward to any future postings wrt your woodcats.
Hope you'll soon find a species that suits you in every aspect.
Remember: it doesn't really matter which species as it will always be an excellent choice

Tonight I saw two mating. Does anyone know for how long the female keeps the fertilized eggs?

2 Days ago I saw 2 mating.

I don't know if it is possible to say how long it takes. If the females can store the semen like some livebearers do then we have no idea when fertilisation takes place.

I'm pretty sure Michael Hardman says that he had dissected Liosomadoras oncinus, and found a small pouch or "vessel" that would be squeezed as the eggs are released, so that a small amount of semen is released with each egg.

So, yes, I agree with Bijn, there is no fixed holding period as far as I understand.

Well, I heard from my contact that I mentioned earlier. He sounds hopeful. His exact words were,

Supposedly my supplier is going to be getting Peru fishes in the end of this month.

What common or other names are the most likely to be on a Peruvian shipper's list for the following fishes?

Yesterday we did a huge tank overhaul and said goodbye to the Liosomadoras female, the T. fisheri pair and 3 unknown - at least to me - Trachelyopterus (1M/2F).
I hope and expect that the new owners (Bijn and Arthos) will be pleased with them.

Tomorrow the small tank will have its overhaul.

Bijn took off with a number of truly beautiful fishes, but we toned down Marc's showtank and I tried to make a more open set up

which would have worked if Marc hadn't bought too much Java fern

still quite pleased with the results

when collecting the Fern I arrested a lone Mochokiella that will stay with Marc's small Ageneiosus in the small tank until I've moved house

it can join my group once I've got a new home and the tanks are running again ;)

Marc's wife was a great help with the numbers (she's soft of a financial administrative genius, and I'm really stupid at paperwork) and we went through all those morgage loan house stuff like a buzz saw.
very good!

next time Marc can help trashing up my tanks once we got into the moving house business ;)

Hey Marc and forumfollowers.

Im very pleased with the new lio, she's a beauty. It's strange that they have complete different colours and patterns knowing that they come from the same batch. My lio is more darker yellow while Marc's is more beige. The paterns of mine are more robust while Marc's is more delicate. Very interesting.

This night with the lights out, they were swimming togheter, an amazing sight. I truly find this species one of the most beautifull SA catfish.

btw Bijn is what I call a lucky b*****d. The fisheri's looked amazing.

I had my delivery today of three . Was hoping for a 1M/2F trio, but it looks like I may have all females . They are currently acclimatising, but will get each one in the photo tank before it goes into the main tank, and some photos may help confirm the sexes.
