Short barbels but I can't get the other clues to match :(
You did a good job, however: winner

Here's the explanation:
Went twice, but present (fish) = gogo
Barbershop/No ZZ-Top musician = no long beard (brevibarbis means short beard/barbels)
Song by Squeeze (I think I'm gogo)
Member of Squeeze = Jools Holland
One synonym = Ancharius brevibarbis
Female dancer = Gogo dancer

Your turn!

My genus name is part of a song (title) by a UK band of which one member is a combination of a well known PC member
I thought of SidGuppy and was cruising through all the Sex Pistols titles!! Trying to match up Anarchy with something.
So far this time: learned Geography and UK musicians along with cats.

First Clues:
A fish everyone should know because you may be asked.
A synonym version with the family name included sounds like it could be heard in a library. Or from a furry-style cat. Or from a snake.

Talking catfish (may also ask something :D ); synonym Doras (Doradidae); loads of s'es in species name.

Btw: the only connection between SG and Gogo is that he really wants one or more as it is from Madagascar

Imo it deserves to become a sticky because of the above mentioned reasons!
To avoid confusion with the obvious questions in the "What's my catfish" forum however, the name of the thread could be changed to something like "The catfish riddles".
A sticky, yes.

As it is my game I proclaim that it should be called "The Challenge thread and the search for eternal Glory!"
Oh no, I just can't get criptic clues.....Any chance of a more descriptive rather than cryptic clue?

Wrong cat, right on the s's for the synonym plus the family. More s's.
Even the proper name is so S-ish, you ALMOST have double vision.
Btw: the only connection between SG and Gogo is that he really wants one or more as it is from Madagascar
Clue: Mr.Fishious ain't gonna be happy.
Clue: You put your babies to bed, I put mine to redd.
Clue: I can be fresh and salty.
Clue: I certainly don't need any protection but I have it, sort of like my own Swiss guard.

Grokefish:

May I suggest Dealing with Addiction  This could keep me up nights, oh wait, I already am.

For Matt, semi-descriptive:
I'm the one in my family with a broad head and truncate caudal fin.
If I was a dog, you'd call me Patches.

Time for bed so a few clues:

If you took me home as an adult, I'd need a separate room, the whole room.
I've heard of 'monster fish' that people collect but I laugh in their general direction. Wussies.
When people meet catfish collectors, they always ask about me in particular.

Dogpatch seems to be a part of San Francisco, so came to mind.
But I bet it has too few s's and remains too small as well....
On the other hand, you may be asked; as in the song: if you're going to San Francisco

Nope but a very cute fish. Not the Americas at all, in fact you don't really want this fish anywhere that it shouldn't be, BIG time!
On the other hand, you may be asked; as in the song: if you're going to San Francisco
Oops, I mucked up the I, you etc. As a catfish collector, you, meaning Marc, might get asked about this fish.

A clue review:
Even the proper name is so S-ish, you ALMOST have double vision.

There can be only one of me. (at a time),
There can be only one of my opposite (at a time)

What's wrong with this one?

Because if my computer like memory serves me right the only person keeping "star gazers" is Attu (Wallago) and he has two different species.

Would it be ?

(It is kept by only one member - "Attu" . & there is a Wallago attu).

If I win, please set another riddle or nominate someone - this is all a bit above my head. But fun to puzzle over :-)

Torbanite, that's correct  . Very good.
Yet I have to apologize to Matt for he's perfectly right: member Attu keeps 2 species of Astroblepus . Terribly sorry for that minor inconvenience :D .
So if I may I'd say there are 2 winners and as Torbanite doesn't feel like making a new riddle it's Matt's turn again to do so.

You lost me there.
Legume is also a bean.

I come from a family 24 genera and 66 species.

Another common name for me is completely Quackers. It's complimenting my face.
Another common name for me is related to the bean. It really means 'a file' but most people know the word as the name of a bean. Or a capitol in South America. Same word.
Another common name for me is a Canadian symbol, more PLAYful than the Maple Leaf.
