New fish:
1) I was described by a former motorcycle racer from the seventies (and 80's) and a former F1 driver from the sixties (and 70's)
2) They both are pretty famous
3) My genus name indicates you don't see me too often and also refers to another fish
4) My species name doesn't ring any bells. I (MvA) have searched a bit, but to me it means nope

1) The common name of my genus has something to do with clothes.
Diplomystids -> velvet catfishes?
2) I am old.
described 1931.. reasonably old..
Or if the clue refers to the age of the Diplomystidae group, extremely old?
3) The water I swim in is black.
Black river... Rio Negro..?
a bit more to the south..
Argentina..

Wow, very good....
Besides:By doing this puzzle I learn a lot about catfish along the way.

The Diplomystidae group is (as I have read) a very old group of catfish indeed, hence the clue "I am old."

That's why Grokefish started this way back when and boy, it was an effective way to learn! (and play  ) Also keeps our brains from getting ick.

I'm baaack!
List is updated: Previously Listed Catfish

Marc - I must have squeaked a bit too loud - no moose but other niceties - see travel log/farlowella ID

I'll second that. :)
..and the more I learn, the more I realize how much more there is to learn.. :?

New Fish

i) I am the only representative of my genus in the cat-e-log. There are two other known species - one of which may be extinct.
ii) I share several characters with the astroblepids (but I'm not one)
iii) My species names refers to a local god who, it is said, created the first man and woman from fish flesh.

All clues speak for themselves, except maybe number 4: described by Hamilton - actress is Linda Hamilton who plays Sarah Connor in The Terminator (oeps.... just noticed I wrote "actrice" in clue 4 - sorry for that)
