I love this forum and web site, point blank. I know that if I have any questions or concerns about my fish, they will be answered in a timely manner by many people. I do visit other fish web sites, and while some are good, some make me shudder (a true sign of a bored mind, when I continue to skip back to said sites to see the chaos in work mode). There is one fish forum in particular that comes to mind, where someone can post that their betta/cory/oscar died, and the post will receive many many replies...none of which asking how or why the fish died, but instead offering condolences. Imagine reading three pages of "im sory ur fish died it is sad when they do."

Jools, keep up the great work!

I think what Shane was asking about was examples of moderators being rude in this forum. What mods or indeed the wider forum membership do on other fora doesn't (and realistically can't) have major impact here. God, if you judged me by my behaviour on a certain Scottish football forum, I'd have been banned years ago!

The key here is inappropriateness, if someone asks a simple question and gets a gruff reply then that's bad, however if that simple question is in a FAQ then they should not be surprised when they are told to search or go read the FAQ. Other forums are often actively looking for more posts so do not worry as much about repeat replies and trivial posts.

We have evolved beyond that while still managing to find new topics all the time; the mods have full access to the FAQ section of the site to help with common issues. If Planet isn't the first forum you've used, then it can take a little adjustment from the style found elsewhere.

Wrong is like pregnant. You either are or are not. What tends more to cause issue is when opinion or experience is taken as black and white, right and wrong. That's when it gets tricky and that's why we have a beefy mix of mods.

Planet Catfish is a bit different than other fora in that it is also a sort of library. Maybe think of the rules in a library and apply them here. Also, I've found the preview button to be most helpful. I've caught myself many times before I've posted things I shouldn't have.

All~

I very much appreciate the feedback, it's good to know we are not far off the mark. However, unless anyone has anything specific to bring up in relation to the behaviour of moderators on this forum, I think it now is best to bring this topic to a close.

Cheers,

Jools

You are wise Jools "case closed".
I think we should take Shanes advice and all have a cold beer and get back to catfish.

no problem with this site at all! Very friendly and helpful. As is http://www.plecofanatics.com I regularly view both sites.

Keep up the good work.
