What temps and ph/kh does this species need? I've read conflicting data, but if you're spawining them, you obviously know what your're doing. I'm looking at this species for a new tank, but don't much about them. Cheers!

Pretty low kH and gH, as well as pH in the middle of the range.
From what I understand, the water doesn't have to be extremely soft to breed
Hypancistrus sp., but getting some cool, soft water to lower the temp and hardness may get them to start spawning.

They like it warm and fast!
Tank parameters at the moment (1 male sat on eggs - 3rd spawn)
Temp = 29*C
pH = 6.7
kH = 20mg/l (1.12 dkH)
gH = 40mg/l (2.24 dgH)
NO3- = <20mg/l (I need to do a water change)
Circulation is roughly 3000 litres/hour (tank turnover ~ 18 times an hour).
They are being fed on meat only at the moment (prawns and frozen blood worms)
I also grow out bristle noses in this tank, and they grow at a fair rate.
They are pretty shy (or at least mine are) but come out after lights out and rip the prawns to shreds. The males fight quite alot with the females looking on, it takes me back to my youth
