Well 10 Ernstichthys megistus are coming my way again...
the info I had from the importer who got them is they are in much better conditions than the first one...these can be fed with "commercial" food, they are even eating the pellets...which was not the case with the others...

I am hoping to receive these very soon!!

And keep them relatively cool with good flow. The combination between good initial condition and cooler well oxygenated water should keep them in top condition. And good luck!

Yes I have a tank ready for them with such conditions...good water flow, fresh water...obviously things are starting much better than the 1st time

What a shame. Those Ernstichthys are unique and nothing like I have ever seen.
Did you run them through any anti-parasite regime and acclimation period or did they just look so healthy you decided to skip it?

I would love to be able to say I have bred any of the Aspredinidae someday.
I have given nominal B. coriacodides a shot and am pretty sure the females grow larger than the males but despite some very fat females I have never been able to figure out what is necessary to trigger a spawn.

A lot of you have species I have never seen.
7 years is about the longest any of my banjo cats have lived but I believe they can live to 10 or more years if well cared for. mine went through a few major moves and probably experienced too much cumulative stress.

Well it seems I running out of luck with the Ernstichthys...the 10 I ordered died until I could get to the shop picking them up...I am pretty mad...but I guess that is how life goes on...

Otherwise...my Pterobunocephalus dolichurus are doing fine, one has really fatten up and I can see a pink form in the back of the belly...which others don't have...which makes me believe it is eggs.

I was lucky to add a group of 5 Bunocephalus verrucosus after 8 years of searching and getting them in time...I had a pair for several years before...and ever since I lost my first pair while working in South America, I had dreamt of keeping this species again

So here is a picture of one of my individual

In 2009, I decided to try banjo cats and asked the LFS to get B. verrucosus. They said they could. A few weeks later I got the call and went in to find something entirely different! But I bought them anyway, being charmed by the little fellows. Taking them home as B. coracoideus, they were later ID'd here on PC as .

Three years later I saw some banjos in a different LFS, actually a strictly saltwater shop, labeled "cool catfish from South America." "Cool" meaning desirable, not cool water! So, I bought two and had them ID'd here as .

A few months ago I picked up two more interesting looking banjo catfish from still another LFS. They are obviously bunocephalus but what species? The ID thread is here: http://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/view ... jo#p279346

Lately, my banjo catfish are coming out more although they still remain mostly buried. I don't mind. The fun of owning them is knowing they are buried in there somewhere!

If I could find other members of Aspredinidae which remain small and are something different from what I've got already, I'd get them.
