Yes, with the "special" USB stick! We still have these and I will add those that are ID'ed to species at some point. Many thanks for opting-in. :YMAPPLAUSE:

You're in. That reminds me I have some videos of yours to add (and also need to check they are not used on labels). We are somewhere off having videos on in-store LFS labels! That said, I was in a hotel bar in Dublin last night and they had small screen video running on the beer taps. Whatever next!

Cheers,

Is it possible to have the common name editable, on the printable label one, so that local countries can put their common name on it?

Possible perhaps, but it would actually be much better if we add the correct name for that region to the Cat-eLog. The Cat-eLog already supports "language/country" variants for common names.

I did not know that, how sophisticated.

Oh and now I have found how to do it.

Very cool.

Please feel free to use my images.

It's a really nice idea. My only concern would be that not enough people will opt-in. Many historical contributors no longer use the forum. I guess this won't be a problem for the common species though.

Glad you like the concept, your concern is well noted. I'll need to gauge what sort of coverage there is, as you say however, common species will be dealt with more readily. If a retailer uses a lot of these to make their shop appear more professional, then they may get into adding images to allow labels to have images. Then another might as they don't want to use the label that says "(C) Acme fishstore". Who knows - as ever I'm taking the "build it and they will come" approach. Its worked reasonably well so far!

Actually folks like Shane, Ian, HH, JJ, Mark Smith are all still very much in contact with me and/or the site, it's their vast, varied and quality additions to the site that would make the biggest difference. There are actually only a few contributors that we've really lost touch with.

Cheers,

Jools
PS I do need to sort out the common names though - I know that...
PPS Just got the auto-suggest feature working to a fashion on the page...

Hi Jools,
Is it possible (and this might be a really big ask and the more I think about it it may be a dumb idea) to be able to add your own photo.

The reason it could be a good idea is specifically for the long fin varieties of where we actually want a photo of the Longfin variety.
And also where there is no opted in photo for that particular fish.

The reason it could be a dumb idea is that people could put a misidentified photo on the label.

Just a thought.

Cheers

That would be my worry. Of course, it happens for us too - sometimes we get the ID wrong... But I think we're a little better than the average shop (I've seen labels which have the same picture for two different species, and the picture was of a third species... And I'm pretty sure that one of the labels was a different species in the tank than the name of the label...)

Thanks to @jjphoto.dk (Johnny Jensen) for recent permission to use his large number of images on labels. This means the majority of species found for sale are covered.

One condition of use was that we used Johnny's website address (www.aquariumphoto.dk) on the label as opposed to contributor name - so if anyone else wants a company name on there (or a small, rectangular logo) just drop me an email/PM.

I don't think you should be able to add your own image but in the future we will look at allowing the user to use alternative species images from the image database. Albino and are good examples from the catfish world, but the same feature exists on AR too. So, we need lots of images for guppies, discus and the like...

Just an update folks that this is close to operational. Certainly anyone wishing to try printing off a few images is welcome to do so.

Mats has done some great work in adding a quick find box to the bottom of the page so it is very quick to select a few species labels, type in the price, switch to printing mode and print. I did some testing on the printing and it's pretty good (except I need to figure out page breaks) but it's certainly workable.

We now need to go through EVERY species in the database with more than one common name (excluding l,c,lda and cw numbers) and assign a "primary" common name which is the one to be used on the label.

All feedback welcome as ever!

Cheers,

Jools
