I have offered to being as many different L Number Pseudacanthicus juveniles as possible to show in David's room. The main concern is setting up tanks and heaters. I do not want to overtax anybody but driving in from Michigan takes some time. I want to at least bring LDA07, L114, and L600 to show their distinct patterns. Once you see them together the differences are obvious. The next ones would be L24 and L25 with nice trailers. After that L273 (red),L185, L160, L97 might be possible. We will see where this goes.
There has been a lot of changes in the past year and my wife and I are looking forward to another great convention!
Regards,
Jim
Look forward to seeing you at the convention. I look forward to seeing your display fish.

Is anyone able to pick a single smallish fish from George Fear at Shark Aquarium, Hillside, NJ on their way to the convention? This fish is paid for, so it's really just courier help I am looking for and I can take the fish on Friday, so it shouldn't need any greater effort than getting from there to CatCon.
Would be much appreciated, please PM me if you can help.

Might want to check with the folks from NJAS- I can add you to their facebook page, just let me know. I know there are many that are coming down for the convention. I can also reach out for you if you rather. Just holler

Jools,
I will be attending the North Jersey event which is being held the weekend before the convention. If someone can get me the fish from George I will bring it to the convention for you.
Cheers
Mark

Who's on the fence as to whether they want to come? Who's coming but hasn't registered yet?
I spoke to some committee members last night and apparently we have more people registered at this point than any previous catfish convention! This means that this might just be the biggest, best, most fun catfish convention that we've done yet!
Get your tickets now, reserve your hotel room. It's gonna be great.

Err, do you want to know what a hashtag is, or what the the catcon hashtag is? The latter, by consensus appears to be #catcon2014.

Hashtag is a term made up by twitter when they swiped the number or pound sign (in the USA) for their own purposes. Well they may actually have stolen it from early days programming.
The number sign was often used in information technology to highlight a special meaning. In 1970 for example, the number sign was used to denote immediate address mode in the assembly language of the PDP-11[6] when placed next to a symbol or a number. In 1978, Brian Kernighan and Dennis Ritchie used # in the C programming language for special keywords that had to be processed first by the C preprocessor.[7]
The number sign then appeared and was used within IRC networks to label groups and topics.[8] Channels or topics that are available across an entire IRC network are prefixed with a hash symbol # (as opposed to those local to a server, which use an ampersand '&').[9]
The use of the number sign in IRC inspired[10] Chris Messina to propose a similar system to be used on Twitter to tag topics of interest on the microblogging network.[11] He posted the first hashtag on Twitter:
from
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hashtag
#1 means "number one", in the USA 1# denotes one pound. But then we are all familiar with the repurposing of symbols in cyberspace. The @ sign was in use for decades before the first modern computers came into being.
Since I do not have anything to do with twitter, there is no such thing as a hashtag for me. Now in the 1960s this might have been a different story
According to Wiki: "Because of its widespread use, the word "hashtag" was added to the Oxford English Dictionary in June 2014."
So I guess it was not even a real word last year

I don't want to clog up the catcon post with this, but I also don't want to inhibit discussion. I'll split this off into another post if there is an interest in discussing this as I have a slightly different view of the evolution of the hash character from it's humble beginnings into usage within a hashtag. BTW Blu-Tack and Basa (
) were introduced into the OED in 2014 too - you got me I'm a dictionary watcher!

Good idea. I hadn't really thought of doing this at #catcon2014 as the next big expedition is in November and that's when I'd planned to update. I could certainly informally update everyone meantime.
