Mystus gulio

I saw in lfs two to eye very attractive Mystus spp.They were 12 cm long and very dark coloured almost black. They were M.leucophasis if someone is thinking that.E-log says
easily characterized by its dull-colored body and very short adipose fin.
There are several species currently identified as M. gulio: the true M. gulio is an Indian species that grows much larger than those from Southeast Asia, and is a more greenish (vs. grayish) color.
I don`t have picture but could they be M gulio? I couldn`t find any pictures matching those two fishes.Do their colour change with the age?

Mystus gulio should have a very small adipose fin (the smallest of all Mystus), making it quite distinct.

It is hard to sya without a photo, but last week while Jools and I were visiting a fish store in Scotland we came across a tank of Mystus cf. gulio. If they are being imported into Scotland, I do not see why they would not also be showing up in other European countries. Perhaps the easiest way to tell them apart is that M. leucophasis will pretty much always be swimming upside down or at a strong angle while M. gulio will swim like a "normal" Mystus with its belly always on the ground. The ones we saw were a dark slate gray.

Same kind as i saw.
They were M.leucophasis if someone is thinking that.E-log says
I noticed that i had made typos here.I tried to say that they were not M.leucophasis - i`ve kept those three years.

These are the true M. gulio (from India). I cannot see the length of the barbels, but I don't think these are M. wolffii.

These fish all are pretty small, 10-15cm max. Caught in the dammed Pandan canal (freshwater). Long time ago i also caught similar fish in the mangrove/tidal Sembawang river, before it was concretised.

Cat-e Log says the true Indian ones are greenish, but the SE Asian ones i caught are also greenish.

Greenish as in a deep bronze green. I don't remember the SE Asian ones being that color when alive.
