What would be the main cause for lateral line erosion with a Synodontis eupterus? This isnt my fish but I have seen a pic of it and its in bad shape. I know with cichlids like oscars, angels etc its water conditions and diet(sometimes hexamita can take hold in neglected cases) mostly but know very little about these little blokes.
Any help would be great.

Hexamita does mainly affect but not exclusively Cichlids. The other (possible) symptoms are
1, White stringy faeces.
2, Enlargment of the sensory pores, on the head and lateral line. The pores then appear to become infected and discharge.
3, Dark colouration.
4, Loss of appetite.
5, Either emaciation of distended body.
The best remedy is Di-Metronidazole Which is prescription only in the UK (I don't know about its availability in other Countries).
And the dosage is 50mg per gall (4.5 litres) but as always I'd recommend that you take advice from a vet regarding this.
The drug is safe for biological filtration bacteria.
Hope this helps.
