Hi all I have a question for any in the know of compatability of farlowellas (acus) and whiptails (fallax) in the same 90 gal. aquarium. This tank is densely planted and has a vatiety of compatible fishes. The farlowellas are about 5-6 in. long (hard to tell)and have been there for 1 year or so
Now I would like to introduce a couple of whiptails at 4in. into the tank. However past experiance cautions me to do a little research b/4 buying, so I'm posting the question to anyone who might know or would care to reason through with me if its a good idea or perhaps rethink my plan.I will consider any and all input you may care to offer
There is an atmosphere of peacefull coexistance that I would like to maintain after the innitial pecking order has been established T.I.A. and regards ART

Actually, they are a good combination as they are booth fairly poor food competitors that inhabit different areas of the tank. My only hesitation would be with regards to what you mean by "densly planted." Most loricariinae are found over open areas of sand and rocks, pure sand, or just mud. I have noticed that they seem to have trouble in "heavily" planted tanks as they can not freely move about. They are not agile fish and can become stuck pretty easily. I would say go for it provided there are some open areas in the tank where they can easily forage.

Hi Shane. I'm glad to hear that they are probably fairly compatible for I was kinda intrigued with the whiptails as I watched them in a community setup in a LFS. They were in with a veriety of fish including cl. Loaches and a couple of sailfin pl*cos, very nearly the same combination as I plan on introducing them into. I just wasn't sure about the Farlowellas. Very little info on farlo's on the web that I could find. I had a similar problem introducing a shoal of Tiger Barbs (9 of them) into a community tank. The advice I got was that if I introed a shoal of them they would be to busy with each other to bother with their tank-mates.
Well gues what, they were dead wrong. 2 Weeks later they were back at the LFS. So I've decided to find out all relevant info b/4 introducing new fish. Please accept my sincere thanks for your reply.
