They will feed off soft vegetables (lightly boiled Courgette or broccoli stem for instance) from the day they leave the males nest. Obviously, as your male rejected them, you'll just have to judge it by the egg-sack and general appearance. When the egg-sack is gone and they look like miniature version of mom & dad, they are ready to start eating.

Unless you saw the female go into the spawning site, you can't really know who is the mother, and if the male abandoned the eggs, you may not know who was the father either... My female is a good inch larger than the male, they still manage to spawn...

You can feed them algae wafer as soon as you start feeding them, but be careful. They will get a lot of protein from teh algae wafers, but they need more plant matter than the wafers contain, so you need to give them some vegetables too.

If you can introduce some algae (say move some stones from another tank), that would help too.

Note: All of the above is based on Ancistrus sp(3), but I don't see any reason to believe that there is any great difference in behaviour or feeding habits.

hi mats ,, thx for the reply , they seem to be developing much faster than any ive read about , they was laid sun night monday morning , hatched friday and now on monday again they hardly have any yolk sac left and i aint a clue how many there are i roughly counted 50 eggs and as far as i can tell 2 didnt hatch aint a clue wot to do with um gonna have to get another tank lol and as for the size diff my male sp1 is around 6 inches long my female gold marble bristlenose is around 2.5 inches long lol if they have mated then good luck to um lol .

ps will post photo soon just setting up new cam and all that lol .

sry no photo's yet , cant find usb lead for camera lol.

The time to develop is clearly related to the tank temperature. In my tank, I had about 22'C, and it took about two weeks from spawing to fry coming out of the cave. But if you have a higher temp, I expect the fry will develop quite a lot quicker.

I'd say that 50 eggs indicate that you had a bigger female to mate with the male...

I suspect that you will have very few losses from here on, so expect to get about 50 baby fishes to house for a few months.
