What does a cory full of eggs look like?

Hi there,

I'm wondering if anyone can help me out by posting a picture of a cory that's ripe with eggs. I've got an emerald cory that looks like it may be in this condition, but I've not been able to get her to tell me, no matter how nice I ask! ;-)

Thanks in advance,
Jen

You asked very nicely,Jen. So, I'll tell you! Please look at the FAQ's in the info bar above. That's one way. Then there's this web site:

Click on the "Common Questions" on the top menu and it'll tell you how to upload your picks. The "forum code" is already done for you.

Bronzefry. I was about to write a similar answer, but I think what Jen is after is someone else posting a picture of a gravid female. Unfortunately, I haven't got anything like that.

There are a few pictures of spawning and gravid females in various places in the Cat-eLog. For instance:
Spawnign C. Aeneus
Gravid female C.Paleatus

That's just a couple that I found in my quick look through. A hint on finding this sort of picture: Look for the genus (Callichthyidae -> Corydoras) in the species by family list, and then find species that have larger number of pictures. It's very unlikely that a species with just one picture will actually show a spawning pair or a gravid female, but a specie with 10-20 pictures are much more likely to contain this sort of picture.

Yup, Mats, that's what I'm looking for - pics of a gravid female cory (if it was a Brochis splendens, that would be cool, but any cory would be fine)... Just want to know if I should be concerned about the change in body shape. Fish seems very content and acts normal, the ventral side is just swollen in the area immediately posterior of the gills.

Thanks for the info on posting pictures, though. Once I get some decent pictures, I may be able to make use of that information! :)

Thanks,
Jen

Jen,
Here ya go!
She's looks a bit like a beached whale compared to the male...

If you look closely, she's just laid some eggs:

Sometimes this female "faints" after laying her eggs.

Nice pics Bronzefry,
The second pic shows a female holding eggs in her pouch. I see 4 or 5 eggs! :D
