Injured narinas in Panaque?

I took this picture of this Panaque at a LFS... are his narinas OK or are injured? if the answer is yes, what's the cause and what the cure? thanks:
and It's very common in all loricarids.Bye

P.D 2.. the cure is good food, shetler and quality of water.
