Well maybe not "friendship"
I have a 9" Jaguar cichlid, who I think could benefit from a tank-mate. We are looking for something that is able to hold it's own and at the same time not harm our Jag. Obviously this would be a "rescue" pleco of significant size. m Any suggestions?
Our Jag is currently in a 90 gallon, and he has the option of a tank upgrade.

is your Jaguar cichlid a male?, i know male Jag's are very aggressive and i think you will have problems in a 90gl. Bigger is not allway's better, personally i would try a 2" bristlenose and see what happen's and make a cave or somthing so he can hide if he need's to.

Yes, my Jag is a male but he is a big chicken who spooks at shadows and currently spends most of his time in his floating nest he makes out of a giant plastic vine amd thus my main reason for wanting a tankmate for him.

We have tried pairning him up with an L200 that was about 3" and the little guy never came out of his caves and we had to move him to another tank just to ensure he was eating.

Also I would not say my Jag is aggressive but more so territorial - he is a rescue from about 10 months ago and previously he had been terrorized by a couple fish (cannot recall what they were now for the life of me ) and had hidden himself under a piece of driftwood and was badly wounded and very much under weight.

I hope a little more information helps in offering suggestions because I really do want to do what is best for my Jag as well as any new tankmate(s).

So, do others agree that I should try a 2" Bristlenose then? Any suggestions are more then welcomed.

Well, here's my thoughts on the subject:
+ Bristlenose plecos are pretty good algae eaters
+ BN's aren't expensive, so if you loose it, you haven't lost a big investment.
+ BN's tolerate most water conditions.

I don't think there's any negative's about it. If it doesn't work, then we'll have to come up with a "plan B".
