No Trachycorystes for me, but I got this...

Since coming back from Florida, I've not had the opportunity to go down to the LFS to see if the Trachycorystes was still there (can't do it now anyway as my car is under repair).
So I picked up four of these guys instead:

Looks like a non-descript Syno to me. So what differentiates them from Synodontis?

That's no syno.

It's Mochokiella paynei.

Good choice, now you're stuck for 20 years :roll: :D

those are however different from mine, the pattern is quite vague and less yellow, more brown.
didn't know there was much variety in this species, because of it's limited distribution.

Perhaps it's more to do with the fact they're newley imported and have just been placed in a photo tank?

There are some osteological features that resemble Microsynodontis (e.g. nuchal plate morphology, ethmoid shape) more than Synodontis.
