Hi all
I came across a really nice piece of wood that I want to include in one of my tanks. However, part of it is charred from someone putting it in a campfire. If I sand/grind off the charred parts, do you think it would be ok to use?

I would have thought that if you remove the charred material, it would be fine.

but beware out of wich campfire it originates!

if they burned only 'natural' wood (branches, trunks) you're fine, but if they also burned impregnated wood, or painted wood (busted up furniture) or other kinds of inflammable 'garbage', you'd better don't; because you WILL kill your tank if stuff like that settled down on your woodpiece and it leaks into he water......

I think the campfire was probably just wood because it is at a popular fishing spot, where all of the wood available is driftwood.

I am going to try and remove as much of the charring as possible and see how it works out.

funny thing: there's a fair chance that the charred parts can work as filtermedium......like the carbon you dump in your filter!
