My wife snapped this photo this Saturday. Just like having my own giant Mexican biotope aquarium! I only came out after about 3 hours when my hands and toes got too numb. Temperature was 72F.

Giant blow up here. You can have fun trying to count the spp.

Not even one HH! That said, there is something to be said about schooling with a giant group of goodeids and mollies or having a convict sicklid smack into your face mask because you got too close to his nest.

How big are the Mollies? They looked huge! 8)

They are huge. In the 4-5 inch range. I actually brought home a male that is just gorgeous at nearly 5 inches total length. He would win any open fish show. I will have to take some shots of him. I was really trying to get some swordtails. The males, sword included, were easily close to 5 inches. Of interest, I can across three albino convicts. I need an underwater camera!

Albino or pink? Quite surprising that they lasted in the wild.

I'm a convict whore... what can I say :o

Most digital cameras have water proof cases that make your camera a underwater camera! Just do an online search and you will see if one is available for your model... they are pretty expensive though.

Psy,
The albinos were white. I counted three out 1,000s that I saw so that might be a "natural" ratio. Given the clarity of the water I would bet there are less albinos than in other natural populations.
Justin,
Jools had one of those water proof cases in Venezuela. I remember his being somewhat of a pain for him but I do plan to get one. It is just so rare to find a place where you can get great underwater photos that I do not want to miss the chance.

I had those "throw-away" underwater cams with me at Great Barrier Reef while going SCUBa and STILL hit myself over the head for not bringing the ol' G2 and a UW-housing.

the pics are all really crappy, a waste of cash IMO.

especially when I found out that UW-housings are quite available in Oz, and dirtcheap compared to Europe. but I didn't bring it, so I couldn't take the risk of buying a bad fitting housing.

(except for cigarettes EVERYTHING in Oz is dirtcheap compared to Europe  )

Not to pimp a sale for a big multi-national, but in my experience the fuji, disposable UW cams are the best out of the different brands. I actually had three different brands of camera on a trip to the Cocos Islands where I spent three weeks freediving everday and the fuji even took good photos at 25+ feet deep.

Anyways, nice photo Shane.
