I have a question: What is the difference between L-numbers and LDA-numbers?

L-numbers was "invented" by the german magazine "DATZ" in 1988 (?) while LDA was started by another german magazine, "Das Aquarium", in 1992 i think. There is no difference between the fisk that is awarded L-numbers and LDA-numbers, as far as i know, but there are far more L-numbers than there are LDA-numbers.

Generally these l and lda number labeled fishes are different species or future will tell which species those are. 333 L-numbers and 72 lda numbers so far

Thanks guys but there could be a small problem. Isn't it possible that a fish will get a L and a LDA number and this would be a bit confusing

Several fish get more than one L-number so, i guess that could be a bit confusing. For example, L-114 and LDA-07 ,is the same fish, Pseudacanthicus leopardus

Yes, the same fish have been given different L and LDA numbers (browsing the L/LDA number resource in PC will show you that this happens very often).
This is sort of like giving the fish common names in two different languages. And like common names, it is potentially confusing.

I can't understand it why the system must be so complicated. Why can't one official system be introduced? This would make the whole thing easier.

That would require everyone to agree on one system, which is not possible at the moment. We're lucky to have only two competing systems, not four or ten.

I know that it is hard but that would make everything much easier!

Hi,
the LDA Nummers do not containt faults, in contrast to the L-numbers (one fish with two numbers, the same number to different fishes, ..., also has the "Aqualog - All L-numbers" different photos than the original photos of the datz, sometimes even different fishes, for example L-148, you can see the correct photos of the L-numbers only in "Das GroÃ?e Buch der Welse" yet, but this book on the other hand does not contain the LDA numbers).
All LDA numbers were assigned by only one person, Erwin Schraml, maybe for this there is not so much confusion ;)

All in all we can see that there are a lot of troubles with this topic and I think that there should be a reform!!
