ok gang, heres the deal:
i may ( if i can convince my dad to get it me) be getting a Juwel 180 for christmas. It comes with a Compact H 4 litre bio filter, whatever that means, and i think it has a heater inside

im using black sand or maybee just really small gravel, and im keeping my two(and will be 4) pictus in it, and thats definate. but, what else can go in with them? i might put some plants in, so i can put in my ottos, but that may prove ftal for them. i might move my angels in there aswell, so it will be two angels and 4 pitus, with aa few plants here and there.
So, what else could go in? i would be perfectly happy with just that!!!

lol yeah but mind you, i am only 14!! i did tell him about that, but i dont think he really wants me to have a bigger one!! i wont stop nagging though!!

Ok, so here's my math on the subject (prices from http://www.thegoldfishbowl.co.uk as of today, can't guarantee those prices for later, and I've rounded to even pounds):

So, if you save some of your weekly allowance, run the paper round or make some money some other way, you may be able to save up some of the difference that I've calculated. [Also, think about going to a shop that sells the tank for less than your local one. On my RIO 400, I saved 110 pounds compared to my local shop, minus a little bit of fuel-cost for driving from Farnborough to Oxford, about 12 quid or so].

So, say you get your dad to agree to a Juwel Record 120 at your local shop at nearly 200 quid. You could then add another, say, 40 quid of your money, drive to Oxford or somewhere, and get the Rio 180 for the twenty quid more and pay your dad 20 quid for fuel...

Add to that the fact that you tell your parents that you're saving money for the tank, rather than wasting it on <whatever your parents don't like you wasting money on>.

Also, if you think you can get better grades in some subject in school, ask your parents if they will add <some reasonable amount> if you get a better grade in the subject... Study a bit harder, make the grade and get a bigger tank...

Obviously, don't tell your parents ANYTHING about the fact that you read these ideas here...

Oh, and as to fish you want... There's so many that it's very hard for anyone other than yourself to decide which ones YOU want. Give us a list of candidates, and it'll be a bit easier to say...

now, if ive got 4 pictus and 2 angels, i think some danios would be ok, giants ones, mind

Ive come to a problem, and im not sure i can solve it though
i have my 60x30x30 (cm) tank in my room, and i dont really want to move it. If i got the new tank, it would just have 2 clown loaches, 3 danios, 3 ottos and a female guppy (long story). Where do i put the other tank though? i was thinking in the garage, but would an English Winter be enough to overpower a tank? if not, ill have to move everyone into the 180

A 60 x 30 x 30 (54 liter) tank COULD be mounted on a sturdy wall [brick/concrete], if you have such a thing on any side of your room. Use some (3 or so) heavy duty L-brackets from your local DIY shop and a piece of plywood as the "shelf". Make sure you use a good quality screw/plug combination, perhaps even the metal expander bolts. That should be strong enough.

If your house is relatively new or recently extended/rebuilt and therefore have plasterboard walls, then you'd need to build a more sturdy stand. The tank shouldn't weigh much more than 60 or so kg, so something could be done to build a "over the other tank" stand with some 2"x 3" (45 x 70 mm planed) wood and piece of 3/4" (18-20mm) thick plywood, a bit bigger than 60 cm x 30 cm. You'll need some 3-4" (75-100mm) screws to fix the wood together and some varnish to waterproof the construction. Total cost perhaps 20-30 quid.

The temperature in a garage would very much depend on it's construction and what sort of measures are put in place to try to keep it warm. [Extra insulation, wind-proofing any gaps between wall and door/roof/etc]. It would PROBABLY be too cold if you don't do something.

One thing that you could do is to put a partition wall in the garage, separating the back and front of the garage at some level, with a door to give access between the two sections. If you also put insulation in the roof-space, and perhaps, when it's really desperately cold, run a small electric radiator in the partitioned off section.
