Flea bombs?

My dog has fleas and I'd like to flea bomb the house, but I am wondering if there is a way to do it safely for my 55 gallon aquarium? I read the Hertz flea spray packaging and it says to turn the filters on the aquarium off and to cover the aquarium, the bomb goes off for two hours and then you let the house air out for an hour. Is this safe for the fish? I wanted to check it out before I did anything that would kill my lovely catfish!

I would think the idea posted by DeepFriedIctalurus would be your best bet.

Go to your vet and buy a product called "Frontline". Do NOT buy a cheap knockoff from department stores, go buy the real thing. It will kill all fleas that bite the dog and you should be able to wash the dogs bedding and vacuum and all but rid yourself of the rest of them within a matter of days. Fleas prefer dogs to people. They'll leave you alone, as long as you don't take the dog and leave them no choice. Frontline is systemic and VERY effective. I had a dog with flea allergies and after I moved to the midwest, we had a terrible time trying to control them, until I found that product. It WILL clean your house of them. I promise. All this with no danger to your fish (well as long as you don't cross transfer it!) ;). Good luck!

Ramblin Man: yes, still spiders and fleas. The apartment I'm in was not lived in for many years, so spiders set up house. I haven't done anything about the spiders yet. Fleas are something else entirely, though. Spiders are easily squishable, fleas aren't!!

Barbie: Thanks so much for replying!! I had been doing some research and Frontline was much talked-about, but when I had initially gone to the vet to get it they were out of the spray, so I got Revolution, which I have heard pretty good reviews of. I got a bottle of Hertz spray and have done that on the floor twice and vacuumed with part of a flea collar in the vacuum bag. I spent 20 minutes going over my dog with a flea comb last night until he was clean and tonight I went over him for 10 minutes and found nothing. This is making me feel a little bit better, but I'm still worried. Ugh!!
