With Ancistrus, How often does the male come out of his cave if he is guarding eggs? The reason I ask is over the last couple of day I have noticed that my dominant male has not left his cave, he comes out of it but stays on it. And I do not want to bother him or the cave if there are eggs.

The males don't come out at all when he has eggs.

If you notice him wagging his fins while he hangs out of his cave, that's his way of advertising for women looking for not so lasting relationships ;). If he stops coming out completely, keep an eye out for fry in a couple weeks!
