Hi All. I am new to pleco breeding. My Dwarf bristel nose plecos spawned (first time). My delima is that they spawned in my 55 gal community tank. S.A. dwarf cichlids, apistos, rams and discus tetras green corys and 3 other bristel nose's. I was wondering if I could artifically hatch the eggs In a qt jar with airstone. since I do not have a spare tank to move the papa and eggs to. Has this been done or heard of?

You could do that, but you'd probably have better luck letting the father hatch them and then taking his cave and him included and putting them in a breeder trap in the tank. This allows them to come out when they are totally done absorbing their yolk sac, and doesn't disturb the male as badly. Then you just rinse out his cave and keep the fry in the trap and put the cave and dad back in the tank. In order to grow the fry, you'll probably need to invest in a second tank. This only works with an enclosed style cave btw.
If you DO decide to take the eggs, use an airstone or an air powered sponge filter to keep the eggs oxygenated, but leave them in the main tank in a trap of some sort. For fry, they put off quite a bit of waste and will need a good volume of water to keep them healthy, even when they're newly hatched.

Hi Barbie. Thanks for the info I am planning on useing an artifical hatching method I have been useing on my drawf cichlids it uses a 1 qt jar hung in the tank with an airstone It keeps the fry In a close net area so feeding is easyer and I do water changes every 2 days till they are about 3 wks old then they go into a grow out. I think it should work with the plecos then i will release them into the grow out tank with the smaller fry already growing out. I also have some farwellas are they easy to induce to spawn?
I am primaraly a Apisto and Ram breeder the plecs cought me by surprize. LOL

If you can keep a batch of bristlenose alive in a quart jar with that maintenance regimen you're a far better fishkeeper than I ;). Good luck!
Newly released bristlenose fry should be just fine going directly into another fry tank, IMO, as they're over 1/2" long at that point. You're few weeks from there with a new spawn though ;).
Farlowella are supposed to be relatively easy to spawn, yes. I can't speak from experience though as I've not kept them. Sorry!
