stupid question

OK, I like to use my hands in picking up fish when moving them. But my ancistris scare me. Can those vampire thingies that they extend when defensive actually hurt you? Or them[if touched]?

There's no such thing a stupid question other than those not asked. I assume you're speaking of the spines of the Pectoral and Dorsal fins; yes, they can hurt if they puncture your hand as they thrash when you pick them up, and the wound can get infected unless it is properly treated.

I shunt loricarria into a clear acrylic container with a fine net myself; much less stress on the fish.
