Can you please define cheapish? There are many price ranges for digital cameras. In my experience, the best digital cameras for taking close-ups of fish have a "macro" feature. This allows for extreme close-ups without blurring. Can you find out what features the Kodak camera has?

I had a look into this and found the Canon A610/A620 to best meet the features I was after, namely a super-close macro lens. The Sony DCS-H1 might also be worth a look but it is more expensive. Also recommended to me was the Ricoh range, but I was told that they tend to have a high level of saturation.
However I didn't end up getting any new camera as I want to put the money towards a new tank.

I've used the following, listing some relevant features:
Canon IXUS 500. 5-46cm Macro. 5 Megapixel. Infra-red focus (in the dark!). Focus lock. Long Shutter Mode. Up to 2592x1944 resolution.
Canon PowerShot A75. 5-46cm Macro. 3.2 Megapixel. Infra-red-focus. Manual Shutter, Aperture, & Focus overrides. Up to 2048x1536 resolution. An optional 3-25cm Macro lens is also available.
The latter is the cheaper of the two, but has a bit more flexibility toward your application. Both also take Movies.

I have a canon a70 that takes great shot... just make sure to use a tripod when taking tank shot when possible.

The Macro on the Kodak Z740 is: 12 - 70cm. Other features are comparable to the Canon's.
Besides taking fish pics, have a carefull think about batteries - off the shelf, or rechargable - do you need a spare? Also memory cards, are they compatible with any computers you currently use? or do you use the same cards in any other equipment?
I did away with downloading images over a USB cable in the first 48hrs. 'Wot a crock!' I installed a memory card reader in our computer, now I can pull it straight from the camera, into the computer, and access it just like any other drive.
