orange and black catfish

Yesterday when I was at Petsmart I saw some interesting looking catfish hiding under a rock. They were a light orange with a few black bands across their body. Their face, however, was spotted with small black speckles. Their face seemed to be a lighter peach color. When I asked what they were, the employee pointed to a picture of a orange syno with black spots on it's body and stripes on it's face. I was confused but the lady insisted they were the same species. :? Is this possible, and if it is, what species could this fish be?

I am pretty sure they were synos because they didn't have a sucker mouth.

?
The body isn't banded, but spotted, but it could be you were looking at a young fish.

The fish in the tank were about 5 inches long. I only quickly glanced at the name tag with the picture and I have a feeling it said Synodontis decorus. Still, the picture was so different from the fish that I am very skeptical that the two are related in any way. Also the body shape of the fish in the picture was different from the fish in the tank.

Here's another photo of a young S. decorus that I saw on the page Mika linked in the albino raphael thread.

This appears to match your description of black speckles on a light peach coloured face.

That looks exactly like the fish I saw. :D However, the picture at the store didn't look like a decorus, young or adult. It could be they had the wrong picture with the name.
