Bloody base of cory fin?

Hello! I was looking at my LFS tonight, admiring three large and boisterous bronze cories, when I noticed two of them have a tiny bloodspot at the base of each fin. I had this happen to one of my cories once and I believe it was a bacterial infection of some sort? Would this be very contagious and what would one use to heal it? I would like to get them and if they're sick I don't mind trying to heal them, if treatment is something I can handle. They're still very spunky and are very cute (like cories are, of course!

), so I'm hoping treatment is something manageable. Any info would be great. Thanks!

The few times I have had cories get this the water wasn't usually as clean as it should have been. I would suggest a couple of water changes over the next week.

Do you think it is worth buying the fish, though?

Only if you really want this fish, and if you don't mind one or all of them dying.
Buying fish that isn't quite healthy is generally not a good idea, but it depends on:
1. How desperate you want that particular fish.
2. How unusual the fish is - if it's something you hardly can find anywhere else, then it's another point towards buying.
Bronze cory's shouldn't be terribly hard to find - however, I don't know how many shops you have to choose from in Alaska...

Mats, you forgot point 3 - Wether you want to risk the stock you already have (if no Q'tine tank)!

Hi! Thanks for the replies!
Kana3, I would NEVER ask this question if I didn't have a q-tank! I live (or rather my fish do!

) by my quarantine tank. I have a new pleco in there now.
MatsP, I'm not particularly desperate toward these fish. It *can* be hard to get quality fish here in Alaska, but I went to a new fish store and bought my pleco, which is where these cories are at. I am really impressed with the quality of the fish and the tanks at this store. The cories and just a couple other fish were the only sick-looking ones. I was in there for quite awhile my first visit to the store, asking questions of the owners about their fish-keeping history, where they get their fish, etc. The fish in this store are SO much nicer and well-kept looking than the LFS that I used to get fish at a long time ago.
Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that I don't really *need* to get these particular cories...I definitely want some and I like that these ones are so big, but am just worried about their little finpits.

After my new pleco is out of the q-tank in a couple of weeks if the cories are still at the store I'll see how they look and make my final decision then. I'd rather not buy sick fish either, especially knowing that they're sick. If anything I'll just wait and get cories from a different order.
Thank you!
